Hair samples are first screened in our lab using an Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA), which is a liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) technique.
This means that if a sample gives a presumptive positive result during the screening process, it is then submitted to gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) to confirm whether it is positive or negative.
